Custom ISO Installation via IPKVM: AMD EPYC 7642

AMD EPYC 7642

Applies to:

  • AMD EPYC 7642

This is a single-CPU server, but you can still install a custom ISO through the KVM interface. The flow here is simpler than on Dell or HP systems: choose the ISO in CD Image, start the virtual media, then reboot.

Before You Start

  • Make sure you have IPKVM/KVM access credentials.
  • Keep the ISO file ready on your local computer.
  • Schedule downtime. Booting from a custom ISO can interrupt services, and a reinstall can erase existing data.

Step-by-Step

  1. Open the server’s KVM or IPKVM console.
  2. In the top bar, use CD Image to choose the ISO file from your computer.
  3. Click Start Media to mount the ISO.
  4. Reboot the server.
  5. The server should boot from the mounted ISO. Complete the operating system installation as usual.
  6. After the installation finishes, remove or unmount the ISO if the KVM panel provides that option, then reboot so the server starts from the installed disk.

Screenshot Reference

Choose the ISO from CD Image, click Start Media, then reboot the server.

Useful Notes

  • The boot screen in this interface shows F10 for Boot Menu. If the server does not boot from the mounted ISO automatically, reboot again and open the boot menu with F10.
  • If the server keeps returning to the installer after setup, disconnect or remove the ISO before the final reboot.
